Southern Vegetables & Fruits

arshtater : Irish potato, or just potato if you're not from the south

bager : rutabaga

beans : usually refers to soybeans

butterbeans : lima beans

english peas: peas, green peas

greens : usually refers to turnip; can be mustard or collard; never swiss chard, arrugula, or radicchio

mater : tomato

muskadahms : muscadines (Vitis rotundifolia)

okry : okra

peas : southern peas (pinkeye, blackeye, crowder, etc.)

punkins : pumpkins

scuppernong : muscadine

speargus : asparagus

squarsh : summer squash or zucchini

tater : potato; often this refers to sweetpotato.

yam : sweetpotato (this term is often used incorrectly in Louisiana although the true yam most likely has never been seen there)
